Health and Fitness thread

(Anonymous) 2017-01-25 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
I like having this thread because I think health and fitness are important and we're nearing that time when resolutions to be more healthy typically are starting to fade before fizzling out. So this is a nice way to keep on track.

I need a resistance band (??) to work on some upper body strength.

You can get them pretty cheap on amazon. I'd suggest the ones that are rubberbands NOT the ones with handles.

Yeah, I don't trust those. I keep thinking they're going to detach and nail me in the face.

You think that because they do. And it hurts.

Can vouch for this. Jfc worst bruise of my life.

Doing okay! I've been going to the gym three times a week or so (not for long periods of time, just to run 2-3 miles and lift a little). I also walk home from work, which is about 45 minutes, and while that's hardly strenuous at all, it probably does me some good since I have a desk job!

Been having blood sugar issues. My fasting around noon was 158. Had a salad for lunch, treated myself because I'd been wanting to try it for months and was there to a Dairy Queen brownie ala mode. Took a 30 minute walk (1.35 miles) and an hour and a half later was still at 228.

So, that wasn't good. Went upstairs and biked for about 10 minutes while listening to a West Wing Weekly and checked again about 40 minutes later and it was down to 150, so that's a little better.

But now it's "dinner" (lunch, for me) time and I'm feeling a little hungry but also anxious trying to figure out what I want to eat and what the best choices for my BS would be. I really hate this reality where it's like, "oh, food has passed my lips! Better go work put to keep my blood sugar in check!" Sometmes I just want to eat a meal and watch a movie without feeling like I'm screwing myself.

I'm temporarily living out of town for work for a few months and the hotel I'm in is at least 35 minutes away from any branches of my gym - sometimes more in evening traffic. As a result, I can only go on weekends, although I try to go both Saturday and Sunday and combine the trip with other errands. Work has taken me to plenty of places with NO branches of my gym, but those were short trips and this is long, so it's frustrating. My job actually involves a lot of walking and physical activity, but I still like being able to do my regular gym routine and work myself in ways that my job doesn't (and make doing my job physically easier in the process).

I joined the gym just under a year ago and have stuck with it, so that's something. The fact that I'm spending money on the membership really motivates me to go!

I was doing so well! Healthy breakfast, no snacking, delicious homemade salad for lunch....then I got home and cooked a frozen pizza and ate half of it. Because I was feeling lazy and didn't want to put effort into actually preparing something. :(

NAYRT

Haha I almost got that far. 3/4 for me. Had good chicken and rice soup for lunch and a relatively good breakfast.

But I cooked up salmon and rice for tomorrow's dinner at least! :D

At least you only ate half of it! And if it was your whole meal it *might* not be so out there on the calorie count. Gotta treat (NOT cheat) ourselves to wanted things or a bout of laziness from time to time.

I have this problem too. I try to prepare one or two dishes over the weekend, and then all I have to do is heat them up.

Tho I still have days like today where I ate a huge bowl of pasta with butter and cheese.

I've been working out every day except Sundays (Sundays are for resting). Still can't do a pushup, but I'm getting better at sit ups! I've also been really good about not eating so much unhealthy food so I'm proud of myself. 2017 will be MY year >:)

I went to Yin yoga tonight. I like just lying around in a hot room letting gravity stretch me out.
