I hated how they were like, UGH! THIS KID IS AWFUL!!! WHY IS HE ACTING LIKE THAT???

-He had an abusive father
-His father was recently murdered
-Another adult (Carol) threatened to tie him up in the woods for zombies to kill him
-His mom was ignoring his problems
-He was also dealing with the whole zombie apocalypse

Honestly TWD fandom just falls into the trap of wanting every single character to be badass and great at killing zombies (even kids.) And then they'll sidestep how psychotic it is for a character like Carol to threaten a child because "Carol is soooo badass!!"

Sam's character motivations all made sense, especially when you take into account that their neighborhood had been fairly sheltered so he hadn't adapted the survival techniques the main group has.
