Re: What aren't you watching?

I haven't watched any of those 5 except Emerald City, but I found the pilot of that show so horrible that I didn't even finish it.

I normally am all for Oz retellings but Emerald City took out every single thing that is fun about Oz so they could make it as gritty as they wanted. Just make an original show if you're going to be that far from your source material.

On the other side of things my favorite new show of the season was definitely the Good Place.

Yep. The more I heard about Emerald City, the more that became my reaction to it. I honestly feel like whoever made it was probably like "Hey! I want to rip off Game of Thrones for network TV! But if I do it as an original show, it might be super obvious, so why don't I dress it up in bargain basement Wizard of Oz clothes! Then I can just say I'm grittying that up, not ripping off this other show!"

Yeah I honestly wouldn't be surprised if, "Imagine Wizard of Oz but in the style of Game of Thrones" was their exactly pitch to get it aired because that is what it felt like.

I kept trying to give it a chance and even thought if I made it past the pilot there might be something in there but the pilot was so bad I couldn't continue.

On one of the commercials it actually says "Wizard of Oz meets Game of Thrones" as a selling point.

I never saw the commercials lol I guess I was right.

Man, I loved the Good Place so much. It's my favorite new show in a long time and I'm gonna be so sad if it doesn't come back for another season.

Same! Especially after that finale I'm interested to see how they'll continue to build the world. I thought they did such a good job telling an overarching story in a comedy, you don't always see that.

Definitely! After the finale I was like "ok, it HAS to come back" because there's SO MUCH they can do with this world and I'm really curious to see what happens next. But I've seen several comments from people who said that with the ending, they'd be ok if it didn't come back, and even one person who said they "didn't see the point" of it coming back because they couldn't think of where else it could possibly go from this point, and I just...don't understand those people at all.

Yeah, that's such a weird argument. I mean, maybe that's why you're not a TV writer, person? I do get being OK with an ending though. I don't think it's saying "I want the show to end!" just that, if it did, what we got was satisfying enough. Presuming it was; I haven't seen this.

Yeah, I definitely get being ok with an ending; there have been multiple times I've felt that way. But with this show, they've created this super interesting world and the audience has only seen a tiny portion of it. It ended in a way that there are a ton of ways they could go next or things they could explore that they didn't get to in the first season, so I wanna be like "how could you possibly be ok with it ending here?!" but...everyone's different.

In the hands of other writers it might not work but the first season was so well done I could easily see them coming up with more to do in the second. Like they've just scratched the surface of the afterlife and since *SPOILERS* now almost everything they initially thought was a lie the way the characters and world are approached can go a whole other way.

Exactly. I'm rewatching the season now (which I pretty much never do, but I loved this show so much, and especially after the finale, I wanted to rewatch) and you're right, it's just so well done. Like I said above (or below? IDK) to someone else, I think after the way it ended there are SO MANY ways it could go now. We've seen such a small part of this world and there's so much to explore, especially after the ending.

Oh yeah I started a rewatch too because it's really interesting to watch all the interactions now under the frame of what happened in the finale because it changes your perspective so much.

I love how the ending kind of helped with some of the more questionable problems with the good place, I swear in other shows it would be glaring plot holes but they actually managed to make everything make a sort of sense.
