Re: Popular ships you just don't get.

Is it awful of me to say that I understand the appeal of Harry/Snape better than Harry/Draco? Like, I by no means ship it, but I can see why it would appeal to someone who likes a twisted, dark dynamic in their fanfics. Snape was obsessed with Lily, Harry is all that's left of her, I can see how that obsession might transfer to Harry and why people would like darkfics that explore that possibility. (If it's fluff, then I don't understand at all, though.)

Huh. I hadn't ever really thought about it this way. I guess, because I've mostly just encountered fluffy Snarry fics, and Snape-Is-Actually-Just-Lonely-And-Misunderstood Snarry fics.

But as a messed up AU scenario, I do kind of get it. Like, if Snape had repressed attraction to Harry from an age that was just dude-you-have-issues-and-it's-not-okay young, like maybe 14-15, but nothing happened between them until Harry was in sixth or seventh year. And then it was just messed up and wrong but still tragic and heartbreaking. Yeah, I can see it. I mean, I can't really see it if I focus on Harry as he is in canon - there'd have to be some major tweaking there. But who Snape is in canon, and his backstory, makes it seem viable.
