I guess I don't have a huge thing about the Dalish because my first Warden was a mage. Elf mage, but in DA:O that really doesn't make much difference.

Though just another thought, especially when it comes to over-representation - I'm not hugely fond of Iron Bull either, which contributes to why I just don't read fic in the DA fandom at the moment, because if it's not Solavellan, then Iron Bull has a lot of representation.

I like the Dalish and that's one of the reasons the Solavellan ship annoys me a bit - Solas is such a condescending ass to a Dalish Inquisitor, it's ridiculous.

In general, I wasn't too happy with the available LIs in DA:I. I tend to play male MCs and like them to romance male LIs if possible and the options in DA:I were... definitely not great for me. It's why I stay away from DA:I fanfic as well - I guess about 95% is Bull/m!Inquisitor or Dorian/M!Inquisitor and if I wanted to read about that (which I don't) I just could have played it in the game...

I have this feeling that Solas is either condescending or "racist grandpa" to every version of the Inquisitor.

Pretty much. I think he is an interesting character, but he's still kind of an ass most of the time.
