It sounds like it. Imagine a guy you know that you assume so far is a cis guy. If he came out to you and said he was born a woman, would you do the thing where you think he's a tomboy girl? I doubt it lol

"Female" actions and mannerisms get coded much harder than male ones so it's more obvious when someone born male is "feminine" so it might be easier to switch them over mentally than the reverse. Someone born male choosing to wear a dress is not the same as someone born female choosing to wear a suit after all. It sounds like it's simple struggling to adapt between what you knew them as and what they are telling you they are now
