I do the same to fall asleep, though I don't do self-insert the concept is the same. I have a mental catalogue of stories to "work on" or go through each night, like you said, depending on my mood.

Ah, yes - I totally do this! It's fun.

I just hate... seeing it in reality. In the form of art or words etc. I like to keep it all in my own head.
