Re: Negative Opnions You Have

I don't understand demi-anything. I get being LGBT. I even get being genderqueer/gendernonconforming. But the idea of being 'demi' anything rubs me the wrong way, I don't get it, and honestly I suspect most people identifying as Demi are just trying to be 'special.'

But it literally hurts me NONE if people want to identify as Demi, it's none of my business, and I firmly believe in being respectful of others identities regardless of what they are, so I am trying to put this past me and just take people at face value when they say they feel a certain way.

I feel this way about a lot of the newer gender identity stuff, tbh. But a big ol' +1 to your last paragraph there.

Same, tbh.

Demi will always be a Final Fantasy magic spell for me.

LOL, same here

This is how I feel about otherkin/fictionkin/whatever it's called now. I shouldn't give a damn, but I always cringe and think "dude, no," when I see it. I guess I should be glad I've never run into a secret half-elf or whatever irl, because I wouldn't be able to hide my reaction.

AYRT: I agree with that, but I'm a bit more wary of people who in all seriousness call themselves Kin. I worry about other issues they may be using that to deal with, especially those who get obsessively attached.

Yeah, I've yet to see someone seriously call themselves Kin that didn't also have other issues (I've even seen one argue it's a valid way to deal with their mental health, which... yeah).

I've seen one that didn't mention any issues, but they were pushing their narrative about their OTP A/B being "canon" so hard it made me cringe. Like, the actual canon ship B/C was badly written, but this "kin" claimed B is so disgusted by C they'd only kiss them to save the world, and even then B would kill C afterwards. Yeah, pretty sure that's plain tinhatting your OTP.

I kind of assume demisexual people are... sort of sex negative looking for an excuse? Like it seems like the "Wait until you're married to THE ONE. because Jesus says so, otherwise it's wrong and you shouldn't want it." repackaged for the less religious.

But at the same time if it makes them happy, I am all for it as long as they're not pushing it on other kids.

Like I saw a tumblr post about how 'sad' it was when they see 16-17 year olds talking about sexual things like kissing because it means they've been brainwashed by society to think they're old enough to be curious about sex!!! And I'm just sitting there going..... that... that's not society, that's called being a teen.

There's quite a bit about demisexuality that seems creepy and slutshamey. I have also seen demis who don't give a shit, but there's definitely a sense of superiority among some demis.

That tumblr post just confuses me. It's normal to think about sex when you're going through puberty.

AYRT The tumblr post... if it was 6-7 instead of 16-17 I would probably agree with it! I mean I think it's kind of creepy when adults talk about their toddlers in kind of sexual "Oh he's such a playboy all the daycare's girls' dads are already watching out for him! He just loves the ladies." sort of way.

But late puberty? It's totally normal to pop boners and lady boners all the damn time over nothing. That's not something you should be making people feel broken about.

Agreed with every single word of this post.

Yes.

And I have such a kneejerk eyeroll when I see it or hear it that I need to stop. People should be able to label their sexuality how they want without others getting huffy or irritated or combative, I know this and I'm trying.
