Re: Have you ever used AirBNB or similar services?

I've used it a few times, and they've all been good experiences. Usually, I go the AirBnB route when I'm traveling with with a group - it's usually more economical to rent out a house than to get 3 separate hotel rooms. I've only ever rented out the entire house too - no hosts on the other side of the house or anything.

I have had a couple (very small) issues, and they were resolved fairly quickly by the host. But I think a hotel would usually be faster. And of course, you have to clean up after yourself at the end of the stay, which would be a pain if I were about to embark on a tiring trip back home (I've only used AirBnB for places within a 5 hour drive).

I feel like the biggest difference between an AirBnB and a hotel is the design - people design their homes how *they* want them, but a hotel (usually) designs their rooms to appeal to the broadest spectrum of people possible. For instance, in the last AirBnB I stayed in, the bathroom had a vessel sink. I'm short, and because I essentially have to reach over the top of the sink (as opposed to just reaching down), I always get water everywhere with vessel sinks. I've been in hotels with vessel sinks too, but that's just an example.

Usually, the nightmares you hear about AirBnB are on the part of the guests (usually trashing the place) and less on the hosts. But there are always exceptions. I do prefer professional hospitality, but AirBnB is always an option I consider.
