So there's this thought where a trans woman is putting her life and safety on the line to be herself so she must be really serious, but a trans dude isn't facing as much threat.
Even though, yeah, it's not that simple. I mean my friend's last family contact was three years ago when his mom died after kicking out and disowning him for coming out five years earlier. A family friend called to try and guilt 'her' that it was a sign 'she' should detransition and 'make peace' with the rest of 'her' family. He told them to fuck off, but it was still hard on him.

(Anonymous) 2017-01-29 12:58 am (UTC)(link)My friend had a really hard time when he was transitioning, but thankfully his immediate family came around and now accept him completely. He lost a lot of extended family and friends, and will sometimes talk about how he still gets letters addressed to his old name and talking about how this is the devil's work and how he needs to come back to God and his "true self" (aka, being female). Ugh.
