Re: Negative Opnions You Have

NAYRT, but I have a really hard time feeling sorry for the Trump voters I know. We're in California, and every single one of my coworkers who voted for him has a benefitted union job. One is Latino. One receives SSI. One has her Masters. All of them are really outspoken "Christians." I'm not even Christian and I'm still pulling the "no true Scotsman" thing, because some of their reasons for voting for him are so terrifyingly un-Christlike. I even asked them about the jobs thing. Some of them didn't care, and of the ones who did, none of them knew anyone who had had their job outsourced or their factory job made redundant when the factory closed down or anything like that. As for "the factory closed and now none of us have jobs"--

And finally, two of the four most outspoken Trump voters I know aren't just racist, they're so racist they'revile. They're not ignorant, they're fucking malicious. One of them fucking hates black people and the other one is the biggest xenophobe I have ever met. She uses "foreigner" the way I might say "child molester." Anyone with an accent is suspect, anyone with an accent who is also brown is "the enemy" who probably barbecues little Christian babies.

1) I never said I felt sorry for them. one can acknowledge that people are in a less than great position, and do stupid things as a direct result of said position, without "feeling sorry" for them.

2) Your coworkers' situation is approximately 0% irrelevant to the situation of the people I was talking about, or of the situation of others who are genuinely living in the valid fear that the local economy and job market where they live are going to completely snuff it. I'm not just throwing anecdata out there; I'm merely repeating what a lot of people all across the country have been saying since the candidates first began stumping.

3) I already said that there were definitely Trump voters who voted for him in hopes of getting their hateful bigotry validated. You in no wise need to convince me of that. I am aware of it, especially being an ethnic minority myself.

4) The existence of hateful Trump-voting jackasses doesn't mean that the Clinton campaign didn't completely fuck up their entire campaign by alienating and disregarding a significant chunk of voters who might well have been persuaded not to vote Trump had they been given any indication that the Clinton campaign gave the slightest shred of a fuck about their extremely valid economic concerns which, the Clinton campaign being just determined to ignore and invalidate, Trump had completely unimpeded free reign to manipulate and exploit to his advantage.

Here's the thing though--a lot of Trump voters apparently feel that they are poor and hard done by since the mine or factory or whatever closed down, but that's all they are, feelings.. They feel that Muslims are threatening and that Mexicans are taking their jobs, when really, they might never have seen a Muslim or a Mexican irl. They feel like they're poor when really, most Trump voters are actually middle class. They feel persecuted for being Christian, but having to tolerate non-Christians=/= persecution.
