I agree. Pence isn't good. He's pretty awful. But he's better than Trump.

Look I fucking hate Trump, but are we really sure Pence is a better option? He's hitched his wagon to Trump's, y'all, he's not haplessly along for the ride.

He's bad, but he's not an actual white nationalist, unlike The Two Steves.

Okay...but Pence is rabidly anti-reproductive rights, he blocked refugees from entering Indiana when he was governor, he's on the books as something of a racist, he was a piss poor governor, he's horrendous to LGBT people, when he was governor he tried to create a taxpayer-funded state-run-and-authorized media outlet so he could control what people heard on the news, he's got ugly ties to the tobacco industry, he was like a REALLY bad governor, and finally...he probably wouldn't change the cabinet that much except to usher in some of his pals.

TL;DR: I agree, Pence > Trump in much the same way one broken leg is better than two, but I don't trust him as far as I can throw him to be any less corrupt or tbqh white nationalist in office than Trump, and hitching our hopes on a Trump impeachment so we have a president Pence is not a good idea.

Nothing I've said should be understood to diminish how awful Pence is.

Pence is better in that he's not so short-tempered and easily offended. He's better in being at least a little bit pragmatic and understanding how politics works. He's bad, but even if his beliefs are as bad he is smart enough not to go as far as Trump is. And that alone makes him better.

Pence may not be as big a baby as Trump, but that's not a bar so low a ladybug could get over it. Few things:

1) His understanding of politics is a fairly poor one, he's corrupt, he was A REALLY BAD GOVERNOR seriously everyone in Indiana fucking hates him, and he's got such a poor grasp on how the economy that ladybug from before could probably do it better

2) I would be careful assuming that the chaos/confusion/mess of Trump's first week is a byproduct of Trump being mercurial. He absolutely is, but confusion and demoralization like this are tactics of distraction. More importantly, he's taking it obscenely far on purpose. He's almost certainly testing how extralegal and ludicrous he can get before someone stops him (in the case of this week, how far he can bend immigration law before DHS/etc gets off their ass and calls him down), and he even cleaned the State Department the fuck out to have an unimpeded path to do so. He filed for his 2020 candidacy on the day of the inauguration--presumably so he can start taking "campaign funds" now. This isn't some temper tantrum. He's testing his limits. And since DHS (largely) and the FBI (entirely?) stuck by him through this unconstitutional fuckshow, he has every reason to keep pushing.

ETA: Bannon is in the White House and I sincerely doubt Pence would boot him.

+1000, but esp on that 2). There's a way to recognize and criticize Trump for his mercurial, tantrumy behavior, but if you let that be your focus then you're edging into willful ignorance.

He is bad but at least he isn't a thin skinned baby. PLUS he likely wants a political career when this is all over.

Read up on his governorship of Indiana. His political career, past, present, and future, is a mess.

My thinking is that it's probably a lot of Pence already in control, so it wouldn't change much we just wouldn't have the reality tv start temper tantrums and theatrics.

Until recently (aka the inauguration) I thought Pence would be worse, because Trump is unpredictable and Pence, you know he's gonna be a piece of shit 100% of the time. But actually, Trump really is as bad as the bullshit he said, he a fascist and literally dangerous to the country. I don't think Pence is as likely to declare nuclear war on a whim or lock up journalists, and at least he isn't as fucking obnoxious on Twitter. He's a normal level asshole. Trump is stupid, petty, and mentally unfit.
