Yeah, I think it was this artist specifically that got the majority of the negative attention:

(links go to a couple of the artist's pictures - no nudity, but potential pedophilia/hebephilia implied)

They are/were a very popular and prolific artist within the fandom (and quite skilled too).

Personally, I've never enjoyed the dynamic that is portrayed between Sherlock and John in this artist's fanart. And that one piece that's some kind of Pokemon fusion is definitely very squicky to me, in a major way. That said, I always thought the way that small but vocal group of johnlockers went after the artist was messed up and wrong.

It's also worth noting that in retaliation against this small but vocal group of johnlockers, a small but vocal group of opposing johnlockers decided to spread the word that fawnlock (an AU popular among the former group) was actually pedophilic. They did this in an attempt to prove that the former group were all huge hypocrites. However, fawnlock was never about characterizing Sherlock as a child or an infant; in the majority of fawnlock he was characterized as fully grown - something which the opposing johnlockers probably knew, despite their claims otherwise.

TLDR: it was messy, and pedophilia accusations were a part of it, though it was only ever a small but vocal minority that were involved.
