What TV show is better off not being finished?

There. I said it.

I don't think it would've benefited from going on five seasons, but I think it would have been nice with twice the episodes. Enough to explore some of the things that they barely introduced and develop the characters' relationships a little more.

I don't think having 2 or 3 seasons could possibly have made it worse. Definitely not going by the example of Whedon's other shows.

But, if I'm being honest, if it was going to have any more seasons, I'd probably only watch them if they were made by someone besides Whedon

Agreed, and I'll add Dollhouse to that. Would've been better with just one season, glad it didn't get more than two.

Isn't Dollhouse a show where people say it only gets good in season 2?

There's a lot of disagreement on that point. Personally I think season 2 messed things up by erasing all the ambiguity that made the show interesting at first.

Man. I think this is true of more shows than not. But I'll specifically point to X-Files as maybe the prime example. Not just because the show goes down hill in quality, but also because I think pretty much everything to do with the metaplot after season 6 or so is just dumb and bad.

Amen. I'd actually put that start earlier, but at least I was still enjoying the mythology episodes before season 7.

You're totally right, I actually got confused about when the movie was. The point where the arc plot just becomes completely unbearable is also the point where they realize the movie is coming up and they need to actually sit down and figure out WTF the metaplot actually is instead of just winging it, which is specifically the Patient X/Red and the Black two-parter in season 5. So that's where I'd pinpoint it.

I actually don't really like the myth arc episodes in s4 much either but they're not quite as dumb as it gets after that.

Stop watching Prison Break after season 2!

And do NOT watch the final season of Dexter unless you want to be sad. Actually, stop at season 4.

House. Don't watch past season 4. Bones. Not sure what the best stopping point is, but definitely several seasons back. How I Met Your Mother. Watch up to the final. Skip the final.

I didn't even like season 4 of House, IMHO that's where the rot set in.

I like the beginning of season 4. I like the competition, though I think they chose the wrong cast members out of them. And I also liked the season final. The rest of the season was meh because I hated 13 and Taub and didn't care one way or another for Kutner.

AYRT, yeah, I hate 13 too. I found Taub too boring to even hate.

Honestly I always thought House 'felt' like it had an ending at the end of S3, his "I'm going to be fine" or something like that, the team all moving on to new things. It would have left me wanting more, but still been a good ending.

The only thing I liked about S4 was Kutner was adorable and that was not nearly enough to carry it. Also I have realized, rewatching the series recently, I hate every single long-plot they have. I dislike the Vogler plot, I hate the 'can I get Stacy to cheat on her husband?' plot, I really hate the Tritter plot and fast forward through every single scene he's in. My favorite episodes were always the stand-alones.

HIMYM's final is a prime example of "sometimes you have to kill your darlings". Some things could've worked after seasons 1 and 2 (the kids' reaction to the story, the final couple), MAYBE 3 as well, but after that? No way.

It really doesn't help the writers tried to fit at least a season's worth of character development in one single episode to shoehorn everything into the ending they wanted.

HIMYM. I think the ending of the second-to-last season is a better series end than the real ending. It wraps up enough while still leaving some ambiguity over what might happen.

But, I like ambiguous endings so obviously ymmv.
