Re: Double Standards you have

I recently realized that while I'm totally okay with polyamorous couples if they are all guys, all girls, an even mix (or about), or a girl and multiple guys, I'm generally uncomfortable if it is one guy with a bunch of wives/girlfriends.

Just, it is hard for me to separate the historical context, and while I believe it is possible in theory to have a non-sexist version of a man with multiple female partners, I generally automatically assume that isn't the case unless proven otherwise.

This definitely extends to fics too. I generally avoid M/F/F threesome fics, and I especially avoid harem fics. But on the other hand M/F/M, M/M/M, and F/F/F threesomes are some of my favorite things in fics. And if harem fics where the woman had the harem existed, I'd be totally down to read that.

Eh, I would say it works for me if it's characters I would ship anyway. That's the significant thing.

Sounds to me like the problem may lie in automatically assuming the man is the dominant one in the relationship always.

I agree, though in theory, I want to be okay with consenting adults doing whatever the hell they want, it just brings up images of fundamentalist religious groups and misogyny. I'm sure there are some one dude + multiple ladies poly groups that work, and good for them, though.

Though in the religious groups, the women aren't supposed to sleep with each other. Maybe for me, it feels like everyone should be interested in everyone, rather than all focused on one individual.

Same. It's something I try to be aware of, but it's there nonetheless.

I avoid m/f/f and f/m/m where it's presented as a dom with a harem of opposite sex subs.

Women making jokes about men in a kind of "that's what guys are like" way. I tend to find that less offensive than the inverse, ie "you know how women are amiright."

Perhaps because the comments / jokes are (in general, not always) less meanspirited or putting men down, more like finding their foibles funny or endearing. (At least the ones I hear!)

I tend to find jokes about women and how stupid they are really, REALLY not funny. Or anything related to periods, etc.

I'm a bit this way as well.

I feel like there are just too many men out there who don't like or respect women at all, they just like pussy. So when I hear guys "joking" about how annoying or dumb women are, their comments exist within that context for me.

Whereas pretty much all the straight women I've known well have struggled with feeling anxious and unhappy because a man they love has done something that's hurt them, and they're trying to figure out how to reconcile those two things. And that's where flippant "Boys are dumb" statements come in.

Then again, I've seen a fair few women on the internet who talk like they hate men and are just in it for the dick. So maybe women like that are more prevalent than I think? I just don't know. I find it hard to believe that even a fraction of the women who talk like that online actually feel that way or act that way IRL. Especially because personally I've never had any female friends/family members who've had that attitude. But IDK.
