Ah! I do see what you're saying.

But to me, it's never been that way - not "He is aesthetically attractive and therefore attractive to many people" but rather "I have noted a social consensus that many people find him attractive" or "He has many features that I have noticed tend to be widely considered attractive".

is that gobbledegook?
