The constant low key one is that my boss's boss is very... erm... well he's a helicopter SEO. I don't blame him, he has to answer to a board composed entirely of doctors and they have are prone to having conniptions while going over the financials.

My current gripe is with my dissatisfied coworker. She was hired as a new grad, no experience. She's now closing in on one and a half years, but that's still pretty green, you know? She's throwing the biggest bitch fit because the person we hired with FIFTEEN YEARS of experience in a comparable position in THE SAME FIELD is getting paid more than her. She thinks that having a degree should give her just ALL the money, and that New Lady, since she doesn't have the same education, should automatically be fed pig slop despite us not having to train her, her already knowing all the quirks of the industry, her knowing far more than the rest of us about some aspects of her job, etc. etc. Dissatisfied Coworker even cornered New Lady in the break room to bitch about how mistreated she is, and how shit our boss is because he won't give her a raise, and so on.

IT'S DRIVING ME CRAZY. I go in to work, I settle down, get started, and she barges in stomping her feet, "OH GOD, IT'S THIS SHIT AGAIN. I HATE BEING HERE. I HATE ALL THESE PEOPLE. UUUUUUGH." and all my good working vibes are gone, man. I've bought ridiculously expensive noise cancelling headphones to counter it.

Boss has tried talking to her, and he's consulted the HR people, but she's actually still doing all her work pretty well, so outside her attitude and the occasional bout of harassment (which I've informed New Lady that she HAS to tell us if that happens again, because harassing other employees about their pay is so wrong it's not funny) there isn't anything to complain about. And they're just like, "wait for it to blow over or for her to find a new job". But that doesn't make the in-the-meantime any better!

Ugh, I hear you on the dissatisfied coworker who thinks her degree trumps everything else, including experience. I have seen it before, and I do not get it - did you actually learn anything with all the education of yours? It's not a ticket to entitlement, it's a leg up on giving you the skills to develop experience and value, not something that makes you immediately valuable

Right?? The best thing I learned from my graduate classes was how to speak in front of a group. I'm still pretty bad at it, but at least I don't sweat through my shirt in the first minute and blow through all my points in the next anymore. I didn't learn a single practical thing about how to keep up with a basic accounting job, much less the financial clusterfuck I found myself in at my current job.

When I got my MBA I earned jack squat. I called myself a bargain bin staff accountant, because that's what I was. I was over-educated and under-experienced, and that's what I got paid for. I've done pretty much the exact same job for the last six years, but because my experience and skill set's increased, my pay's more than doubled. If you know what you're doing, and can prove it, employers, or mine at least, will shell out what you deserve. But you have to prove it. And it takes time!
