46 - Father Ted! Awesome! I can't believe Hollywood have taken it and are going to make a movie based on it, only set completely in America ¬_¬ ugh. Leave it be.

[identity profile] leinyan.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG ARE YOU SERIOUS? ): ): ): ):

[identity profile] snozzlenut.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I read it on the news a while ago that it was being planned. I haven't heard anything else though D= Not impressed.

[identity profile] leinyan.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
): Why can't some things just be left alone? The entire premise wouldn't work if you changed anything about it, especially the country it was set in.

[identity profile] numerousoptions.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
This coupled with the plans for American Battle Royale remake do nothing to help me like Hollywood

[identity profile] snozzlenut.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
An American Battle Royale? Ugh nooo. Hollywood need to learn to leave things alone!

[identity profile] numerousoptions.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Thankfully it's being delayed due to the fact that the fucktards haven't even acquired the RIGHTS to it yet/Hahaha just try and release a movie about, what, sophomore year high schoolers shooting each other and killing in gruesome ways in AMERICA

[identity profile] leinyan.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they were going to do something on it last year, but because of the Virginia Tech shooting they put it on hold. There have been so many school shootings doing something like this would be just bad taste.

[identity profile] numerousoptions.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Also: Next to goddamn impossible to get a wide theater release, which is undoubtedly what they'd go for

Unless, of course, they change around the plot/characters drastically

(Which I expect)

[identity profile] leinyan.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
The plot is so simple - the youth misbehaves so let us teach them a lesson they'll never forget. There isn't a lot to change around there, and I don't mind a little change in the characters to make them more well... American-y. I also find these American films which are said to be hella gory, that are full of superfluous violence to just be so awful and unrealistic.

[identity profile] numerousoptions.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, America loves the ever loving FUCK out of gore, believe it

Problem is: When it happens to those under 18, real or fiction, everyone gets really tense, and then there are some crusades about banning shit because what if it gets in the hands of the kids so on and so forth and blah blah blah

Also also: Holy crap every last vestige of sexuality would have to be wiped out of Battle Royale. America LOVES gore, tits make us tense as fuck (and again, the not-18 factor turns shit 2 DA MAX) just look the old superbowl kerfluffle for proof, and Mitsuko Souma would just lead to some more Jack Thompson-esque nonsense

[identity profile] leinyan.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah it seems like no matter which angle they take it from they'll have people giving them shit for it for a multitude of reasons. That is the problem though, with this kind of film (original or remake) - somebody is always going to have an issue with it and I think the film makers would probably bow to the pressure and edit it so it would get a release.

[identity profile] leinyan.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I think New Line bought the rights 2 or 3 years ago but nothing has come from it yet. Normally I don't care for remakes but this one wouldn't work as a non-Japanese film.
aestivalis: akito sits in a cockpit, the terraformed planet mars in full view behind him (martian successor nadesico) (Kuja | Repulsive!)

D:

[identity profile] hina.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
But... America... I think they have sort of missed the point. It's the Irish-ness of the characters that adds to the series. Srs, American Mrs Doyle? Rly?

[identity profile] revulo.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
WHAT?? NO!!! THIS THING CANNOT BE.

[identity profile] snozzlenut.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I found the article I read it in from last year but that has been the last I heard D= hopefully it won't come to pass *fingers crossed*

Comedic actor John Michael Higgins ("Best in Show," "Fred Claus") has been cast in the lead role of an American remake of cult Irish comedy "Father Ted."

Higgins tells Teletext UK that "It's not on Craggy Island, it's a fishing village down on its luck in New England."

The big question is, will it work? Only a scant few shows (eg. "Pop Idol," "The Office") have made the transition, most have crashed and burned or not even gotten off the ground.

Higgins himself is dubious "The English have a very robust history of being unkind about religion. We don't have that in our country, we're frightened of it. It's basically that you guys are doing an Irish joke also, we don't have that. So I'll be Father Ted, we'll see how it goes."

Shooting is scheduled to begin in January.

[identity profile] longlongwaytogo.livejournal.com 2008-05-08 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
lol what. It'll never work.

[identity profile] aniai.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh what?! That's the worst thing I've heard all day.

[identity profile] atom-bunny.livejournal.com 2008-05-07 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I just sat here going "No no no... it can't happen."

Hubby asked me what I told him.

He sat there going "No no no... it can't happen..."

If they do it, it's doomed.

[identity profile] winks.livejournal.com 2008-05-08 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
What.

ARE YOU SERIOUS?!
