48. Maybe you just don't like men... at all. o_O
64. I think he's asexual, virtually incapable of loving someone more than he loves himself. He's fond of people, he needs them, he cares for them, but I don't see Griffith loving anyone, even Guts and Caska. Oh God. You make me want to read the manga again. D:

And Griffith DOESN'T love himself. Remember the flashback scene in the lake where he claws at his skin, and asks Caska whether she thinks he's disgusting? Remember the whole scene during the Eclipse when God Hand are manipulating him and showing him his past and possible futures? He hates what he does to people, how he uses his underlings and the people who were loyal to him as stepping stones - the reason he continues is not only to find his place in the world, but because stopping now would invalidate the deaths of the people who died for his sake.
Speaking from personal experience, I can say that people who have a lot of ambition typically have very LOW thoughts on themselves - it's their self-hatred that motivates them to get social status to compensate for their internal lack.
/rantranrant but I think saying that Griffith is asexual or only thinks of himself or is some kind of sociopath COMPLETELY misses the point of his character. People with emotions are very capable of doing horrible things! Griffith was pushed to the edge by the Eclipse; he had everything taken away from him. It was despair and desperation that brought him to that point.
...also, the scene in the courtyard where he invites Guts to bathe with him? And he's basically standing there naked saying 'hey Guts, let's splash water on each other in a completely heterosexual way'? Eh. Heh. Heh.

Alright, I see your point, but I still don't see Guts as a romantic interest. He might love him, need him, but I don't think his feelings were that strong or at least that wasn't the vibe I was getting. Sorry. D: But I won't rule out what you said. Anything is technically possible.
There's only so much you can attribute to the loss of a useful tool or the feeling of defeat.
I actually did think that though. I figured maybe he needed him so much that in Guts' absence, he really thought he had nothing else even though the rest of the Hawks and Caska were still there.
But now that I think about it, when they found him after he got tortured, he was kinda eyeing Guts and Caska, which can imply something either way... But I'm still not sure.
I guess what I'm really trying to say is that Griffith was or could be incapable of loving someone in a romantic sort of way? Maybe.
