But do you really think it's just about getting the girls off the show? I mean, Ruby has definitely improved over her original character, who was clearly a twink. She did just pop in randomly and save the day without any explanation. Once they started giving her explanations, I think she started being a more vital part of the show. I especially liked her in Jus in Bello.
But Bela is really a non-entity. She has no personality except as the stereotypical badass girl who needs to be there to be a thorn in Dean and Sam's side. She particularly does not have a backstory, unlike Ruby, and seems to be a more hardcore version of Jo, with the addition of being a thief, of course.
Is it really such a bad thing to want well-rounded characters with emotions, plotlines, and pasts on the show? They did just fine with several of the female characters, such as Sarah, Madison, Ellen, and Jo. Even Cassie, Jess, and Mary, I guess. But Bela is just the absolute worst example of a horrible female stereotype -- that women only want money and shiny things, and they'll do whatever it takes to get it.
