Just to clear it up: the first anon claimed it fetishizes gay relationships, with which I don't agree because I personally don't think Victor and Yuuri are meant to be a couple (into each other? Probably. Intentionally romantically framed, for sure. But a couple? Yeah, when someone can tell me when they got together, and why they never fucking talk about their relationship when they sure as hell can talk about their friendship in OTHER ways)

BUT. Free has the same displays of manflesh as YOI, except at levels that don't look as fucking ridiculous, and Free openly acknowledges that it's doing it for the fangirls ("muscle otaku", riiiiight). It has the ship-teasing merchandise, it spends more time talking about friendship than about improving athletically, it does the EXACT same thing except that it keeps it at a slightly lower level. Did anyone EVER think that Free tried to sell itself to boys and men interested in competitive swimming?

(thanks for reminding me about the stripping scene, too. Yeah, half-naked, muscular men at an inexplicable stripping pole sure was a profound thematic highlight that totally wasn't pandering to a female audience or anything)
