Conversely I can't stand the people who insist on positivity all the time.

(Though yes, the example OP gave is irritating as fuck)

Mmmmm yes that too.

I can kind of see both. Self-deprecation annoys me in other people, mostly because I don't know how to react. Some people are fishing for compliments. Some people have said they are just trying to make light of their flaws (or insecurities) and find the compliments fake and patronizing. So I don't know what people want when they start with the self-deprecation.

Since it bugs me when other people do it, I try not to myself, but I sometimes get the urge to. Not to fish for compliments, but because I feel like the other person will notice everything wrong with me, and if I don't mention it first, they'll think I'm too stupid or too arrogant to notice.

But I can also see why too much positivity annoys people. Some of it has to be fake.

My self-deprecation ties in with my general cynical worldview (which is also why excess positivity bugs me.) I laugh at nihilistic memes and self-deprecation is a part of that.

I don't really expect anything of anyone when I'm being self-deprecating, sometimes it's just easier to joke when you have a lot of self hatred.

Yeah, everyone I know who ever insisted on always being positive was extremely fake and in some cases, hiding something that was hurting their mental health.

I'm also the type who finds ranting to be a form of stress relief so I can't be around people who insist on always being positive.

Now I'm wondering how many people I annoy with my positivity. I'm also a sarcastic bitch so that helps temper it (I hope), but I am a genuinely positive person. I'm also more inclined to share things that make me laugh or give me some sort of joy so I think it could look fake to anyone who only knows me on tumblr or facebook.

Oh, I share things that make me laugh all the time. It's just that I laugh at nihilistic shit.
