Working in illustration/animation. There is some good about it but there's also a lot of bad, it's extremely unstable and people often want to underpay artists. Also, because the narrative of it being a "dream" job gets pushed a lot, people will use that same narrative to take advantage of artists and overwork them because, "You're lucky to even have this job/we could replace you with a young art student who would be EAGER to work these hours."

You also end up working on a lot of crap projects you hate to get by, and you're extremely lucky if you don't.

Nothing of what you just described sounds good or fun, OP. It seems to me that if you can't work on illustration /animation while juggling a secure job, your odds of succeeding at art while struggling in a highly competitive, low paying field with shitty projects doesn't sound good.
