I got thrown out of it ten minutes into the first ep. For all their vaunted attention to detail, glorious flowering wisteria three centuries too early was a massive no-no for this viewer. Also historical paramedic Cromwell, which I regret to say made me laugh. Also faded tapestries, also pristine white stone carvings. I kept on watching it, but couldn't regain the sense of immersion.

I've ranted about these elsewhere. But honestly, there was a time when the BBC cared about such things. Sic transit gloria mundi.

Because they could totally rip all that anchronistic wisteria off someone else's walls. Sure.
It was bloody brilliant and most people interested in political and social history don't know or care about flipping plants.
Ridiculous cavilling like this makes you look foolish, not the Beeb.

Nayrt

Or... Or... They could film someplace that doesn't have wisteria growing on it? I'm being slightly facetious here. You seem awfully upset that someone didn't like the thing you liked, because they're disliking it for the wrong reasons, according to you. That's kind of funny! :D

Wisteria is super popular as a wall covering for old buildings, it actually helps insulate them you know, finding an old building of the right period (not a lot of them left, most have been either pulled down during the regency period or blown up by Oliver Cromwell's men) without it, and whose owners are willing to let a film crew tramp around for months might have proven just a task too far. Since most viewers wouldn't know that wisteria is as anachronistic as horse chestnut trees in that period and wouldn't care even if they did, it is one of those things you just need to roll with.
