I actually laughed; thank you, OP.

That said, yeah, she's actually a pretty annoying character, haha. Upon rewatch, though, I feel like a lot of them are? Like, Wufei is a thousand times more annoying than I remember him. Heero too, in some ways. At least Noin was about as cool as I remembered her.

Heero can be to an extent, but he was so stunted in many ways that I can't really fault him for it. Of course, he's my fav so...

Wufei was always an asswipe. And Heero was a little shit, basically 99% of the time, and even more obnoxious by the narration's insistence that he's really a very nice boy. lmao

Duo, Quatre, and Trowa are cool though. :D

To be fair, Heero did mellow out some just in time for Endless Waltz.

I literally cannot remember anything from GW at all. Except the blond with the mask.

It's like my GW-area harddrive has been wiped clean. Wtf.

And every Gundam series has a blond with a mask, so that's not saying much. It's okay though. At one point I forgot I'd watched GW at all (along with a bunch of other less memorable shows my college anime club watched).

I remember Zechs being 100 times more fuckable once the mask came off.

Then after a while, he got a little creepy.

And once that wore off, he got 200 times more fuckable.

Accurate on the fuckable stats.

You are me and every female character it's cliche to hate. I'm over my slash fangirl phase and my "I'm not like other slash fangirls" phase when I liked those characters just because I was expected to hate them. I don't care either way anymore what ships they get in the way of or not, most of them really are annoying because that's just how they are.

I started re-watching recently and yeah, I get she's the peace princess and all but she did start as a brat early on. And Heero is hilariously one-note character "I am going to try and blow myself repeatedly just to fail miserably". I did like most of the rest of the cast, though.

Also never forget Lady Une shooting a man after throwing him off a plane. You can't make that stuff up.

I don't understand how it's different from what you expected since that's literally 100% of the fandom XD
I still remember the first time I watched GW after reading a bunch of fics. My mind was blown. There were... politics and wars and shit.

That's pretty much what I liked about her - she did get upset about things it's reasonable to be upset about.

But hey, you do you. If we all liked the same character there wouldn't be enough to go around. Er...

nayrt but Relena in no way was upset about things that were reasonable to be upset about early on. She was actually a horrible brat. Not like, average 15-year-old girl brat. She was fucking terrible, and weird as fuck with the Heero thing (begging random dude to kill her because she's so a crazy stalker, for example). I think she was intentionally written that way to demonstrate her growth as a person later on.

See, when I was younger I used to hate her because I thought she was annoying and her constantly going "Heero... Heero..." was like the archetype of everything I used to hate on female heroines back in the day.

But now as a grown-up I can see where she is coming from, and I understand that without her and her attempts to being a peace ambassador the war in GW would have continued on and on and on... I still get annoyed at the "Heero /dreamy sigh" thing (because I grew up with it and having the only female character orbit around the MCs dick was so common back in the day...) but I don't outright hate her anymore.

I had the same reaction. Hated her when I watched the show, but then when I got into the fandom (a few years later) I started liking her just because the overwhelming hate. But honestly, a lot of the hate I remember had a huge sexist bent and I don't recall ever reading legitimate rants about her. Which I'm sure there are, it's just the sexist angle that made me start to defend her (in my head. ever the lurker.)

I've been thinking I might rewatch this, you've now got me curious about my reactions now to characters I liked or disliked then. Hmm.

Aside from the constant HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-- ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! she wasn't half as annoying Dorothy's crazy rants IMO.

I loved Dorothy because they were really unapologetic about her being batshit crazy- but, oh my god, I just could NOT with Relena and her neediness for Heero. I tried to like her. I really did.

I really should rewatch this show. It's been absolute years, and all I really remember is that Dorothy was my favourite, Noin and Lady Une were awesome/scary, Wufei and Treize had a weird thing, Treize and Zechs had a weird thing, Treize was weird in general, Trowa and Quatre were married, and for some reason I absolutely loved the Tallgeese and absolutely hated Heavyarms. I wonder how much any of that would hold up on rewatch.

I rewatch it periodically. And I was a HUGE Relena hater back in the day. But I don't hate her anymore. I'm more indifferent, if anything. But up until like, episode 15 or so...which I THINK is around the Antarctic bit, she's, well, a typical 15 year-old who only really sees things in black and white and has a huge crush on Heero. Once Noin tells her that Zechs is her brother and makes her see things in a more grey light, Relena finally starts to grow and mature is infinitely less annoying.

By EW, I actually kind of like her and the fact that she has some major balls there.

I still don't ship her with, Heero though. Heero's too much of a lone wolf for me.

I remember that I liked neither Relena nor Dorothy, my favourite character was Trowa and I shipped one of the rarepairs (and wasn't fond at all of the juggernaut pairings).
