Dude, that's a HUGE thing, especially for popular/successful teams like the patriots. I know a lot of people who were rooting against the Patriots, and they don't even follow football.

Hell, I remember when Oakland played the 49ers. Even people who had never watched a football game were wearing shit for Oakland, just because the 49ers were so universally loathed.

I mean, Niners-Raiders games always have a certain frisson in the Bay Area for purely local reasons, and at different times it's certainly been the case that the Niners were dickhead and the Raiders were the lovable underdogs, I'm just a bit confused by the narrative timeline and everything
