I'm genuinely surprised they had any at all! I liked the movie, but didn't think it did all that well in terms of box office.

They've always been known to do figures for franchises that other companies didn't.

Plus it's possible they already had the rights in the works to do the figures before they even knew how the movie would do, I work in toy design sometimes (not for their specific company, but another one) and projects get started years before the toy line is supposed to come out.

I'm convinced certain movies and video games solicit them to try to get more publicity (Jupiter Ascending, the video game Evolve, Tomorrowland, the Ghost in the Shell reboot). There is no reason for there to have been Tomorrowland Pops. Absolutely none.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if advertising for the movies is part of the motivation. It's also just in general a very lucrative game if you can merchandise the hell out of a movie, companies don't always catch on to what will be big sellers though so sometimes they jump the gun on things people have no interest in or they do the reverse and have nothing out for a movie that people want merch for.
