I feel like Gatomon got nerfed as soon as she turned good. lmao She's introduced with Miyotismon and I distinctly remember her kicking the shit out of everyone else's Champion form. Then, once she joins the rest, she's treated like a Rookie.

Gatomon is my fictional pet-soul mate. This matters to me.

Yeah, it was classic nerfing the second she joined them :( I was annoyed then, and I am annoyed to this day. Gatomon is Champion form, what the hell is this bullshit.

Basically any anime, or especially video game. You fight someone as a baddie, their attack and HP is off the charts. They join you, and suddenly they are mediocre. Evil alignment is quite the buff!

I had a wip superhero-AU fic where I was sort of trying to subvert that, actually. The hero team goes about recruiting this super-strong villain, but as it looks like it might be working, they realize that it's going to sort of really fuck over their team dynamics because he's more powerful than basically all of them, and now they feel useless, so there's all this tension floating around in addition to the standard issues involved with turning a villain good.
