The one with Orlando Bloom in it was hilariously bad.

It was intentionally tropey. If tropey is what you're in the mood for, it's a lot of fun. (It also snuck in some book elements that often get left out of adaptations, there's that too.)

Tldr: I respect your feelings, but feel no embarrassment at liking it.

Ah, man, I loved the Orli version as much as the Kiefer version. Both movies were so much fun.
