How did they retcon it?

Season 1 had him bragging about ordering the genocide of the Lasat race. Murdering his own men out of spite, and so on. Then in an episode of Season 2 he suddenly admits he had nothing to do with the Lasat genocide and only made it up because when he was on a mission a Lasat mercenary killed all the men under his command.

I honestly thought he was lying to get them to trust him because it really made no sense at all with his earlier behavior.

I didn't think he was saying he had nothing to do with it. I just thought he said he took credit for ordering it when he didn't but that he still was apart of killing all the Lasat.
