Weird/disturbing memories/occurrences

What are some things you've never been able to explain, but sort of wig you out or worry you? OR, conversely, are actually kind of funny?

This one isn't funny in the least, although five year old me thought it was. I remember being five(ish) and being in the car with my mom. We may have been eating in the car outside McDonald's. There was a guy trailing along with a toy train. I laughed because it was an old man playing with toys; my mom said, in a very serious voice, something like "no, it's not him being goofy. It's not good."

To this day I don't know if the guy was senile (which is very sad) or some sort of pedophile trying to lure kids (which is creepy as hell).

Did you ever ask your Mom what she meant by that?

AYRT - No. I'm not sure she even knew if he was senile/disabled versus a predator.

I vaguely remember as a kid being...somewhere. Rest stop maybe? And there being a dude there (not out in front, but more around the side of the building) with a puppy and I was so excited to meet the puppy.

And my mom was like DON'T DO THAT.

I didn't understand why until I was grown up.

Yikes, that makes me sad for both the kids and the puppy. :(

I mean it's possible the dude was harmless but it's also possible I had a narrow miss with something really bad.

Another possibility is that she didn't want you going up to strange dogs. Puppies can bite.

No, in this particular case it was definitely the dude that disturbed her, not the dog.

I've been told that the nighttime phenomena I used to experience regularly were obvious manifestations of sleep paralysis, but I have never been able to explain why I only get sleep paralysis in one room of one house.

It has never happened anywhere else.

LOL, if that one room is your bedroom, that might explain it.

LOL, I didn't realize I needed to spell out that I have slept in other rooms of the house, as well as in other houses, without experiencing the sleep paralysis.

DA

I don't totally know how sleep paralysis works (idk how well actual Scientists understand it, though, so...), but I can imagine that your sleep patterns might somehow be different in your room (the place you always sleep) than in other places?

nayrt - This is what I'm thinking, too.

Or that if sleep paralysis happens, say, 10% of the time, and 99% of the time they're sleeping in one room, it's not too surprising that the occurrences are happening in the room they usually sleep in.

Eventually I changed my bedroom. That was about 5 years ago; no sleep paralysis since.

I used to think my house was haunted as a kid because I'd so often wake-up unable to move and there'd be this thing in the doorway(or crawling across the walls/ceiling), turns out it was sleep paralysis and I've had it all my life.

I still get it now but it's nowhere near as often.

Once I posted a playlist of my favorite music from the 1990s and a friend remarked that she didn't know most of the music because she'd been married during that time. I still have absolutely no idea what she meant, especially since I was also married during that time (and had gotten married years before she had, and had stayed married). Weird, man.

That is... odd. Was she not allowed to listen to her own music? O_o Did she also have kids? Because she COULD have just meant that she wasn't going out to bars and stuff since she had a family. But that's still odd, because people listened to the radio...

When I was a preteen my father talked about getting me a passport, but my mother freaked out and said I couldn't, and got really upset and yelled about it, and I didn't know why. I realized later she thought he was going to kidnap me (he had no custody of me) - but to do this day I'm not sure if it was actually something my father was considering or if my mother was being paranoid. They are both believable.
