Is Debbie Reynolds even that well known in the British Isles? I'm American and a decade older than Aisling Bea; and I'm barely aware of Debbie beyond being Carrie's mother.

She was a world famous film star in her day, so of course she is know, especially in English-speaking countries. For "Singin' in the Rain" at least. People who remember Postcards From The Edge will know that Carrie is her daughter as there was a lot of focus on their real life relationship due the the book and film. Younger people or people who don't know much about classic older cinema might be less aware of Debbie and /or might not make the connection with Carrie. No reason why Aisling should know, particularly

I'm American and half a decade older than Aisling Bea, but I was aware. I was mainly introduced to Debbie Reynolds through watching Will and Grace.

Not sure when or how I found out about herbeing Carrie Fisher's mother, but I knew by some point in the 1990s. Carrie's father, Eddie Fisher, famously dumped Debbie for Elizabeth Taylor, so maybe there was an episode of Biography or some other retrospective on Taylor I saw that mentioned it. Also, I've always been a big Star Wars fan, so I tend to stop and pay attention when one of the stars' names pop up.
