They specifically defended it, not just as an episode, but as an adaptation of the original story, and specifically the ending, and specifically the ending being more feminist than the original story's ending.

I do not think that there is very much validity in that point of view. I apologize if that is rude to say. I think the episode as a whole is bad but if you found something to like in it, fair enough. But as an adaptation, it's a travesty.
