Re: What's the most uncomfortable conversation you've had in the last week?

Had to tell my friend that his girlfriend wears perfume I'm ridiculously sensitive to and if he was going to come over after seeing her, could he shower first please.

This was said while my nose and eyes were running so badly that I had to change my shirt and wash my face. I'm still blotchy around the eyes.

Same thing will happen if I get into a car where someone has been sitting recently while wearing that perfume or one that's similar. I don't have to come into direct contact with the person. Try explaining this to anyone who doesn't have allergies though. They will look at you like you're fucking nuts.

Oh I hate that! Plenty of my awkward conversations revolve around me telling people that no really, I'm not crying, my eyes are just ridiculously sensitive to some perfume that's lingering in the room.

Haha. Yes! Or if I have a cold.

When I was in high school, coloured eyeliner was a thing and I got accused of wearing red a few times. One of my teachers tried to make me wash it off. Haha. No. It's just summer pollen and teenagers spraying whole cans of deodorant on themselves.

When I was a kid I got into my mom's makeup and she thought I'd gotten purple eyeshadow all around my eyes, but it turned out that was just the first time she really noticed the dark circles that I always had around my eyes.

:'D
Did she try to scrub it off? I had that problem with a cluster of freckles on the corner of my mouth. It's not food! Nobody believes me. My nan still tries. Anytime I've been in the sun and they get darker again someone will notice and be like "oh you have a little something..." *gestures at mouth*

Late but I FUCKING UNDERSTAND YOU, MY FRIEND. I GET IT. I am stupid-crazy-strong allergic to cats, so OF COURSE more of my friends are cat people than dog or petless people. If they change into clothes straight outta the closet right before they see me, everything's good. But if they don't, if they've been hanging out petting their cat and the hair is on their clothes, I'm fucking screwed. My breathing gets weird, my throat starts constricting; I sometimes need to immediately leave wherever we are together and take allergy pills and take all my clothes off and tie em in a plastic bag until I can wash them and take a shower, and sometimes I have to go to the fucking hospital.

It is such a pain in the ass. SUCH a pain. My friends get freaked out when this happens, because duh, so they're usually pretty good about this. but it can slip somebody's mind, or sometimes friends bring OTHER friends and the other friends don't know, or I can just be in a public place like a bar and I can't screen for that shit in there, and someone at the next table can have a sweater full of cat hair, or whatever. It is awful. and because my allergies are SO extra that I don't even need to be in the same room as a cat for it to happen, I fucking hate having to give people the whole speech. They think I'm exaggerating, and why shouldn't they? until they see it happen

Having watched my friend's cats playing in her freshly washed basket of laundry and sleeping in her linen cupboards I totally understand why you can't escape the cat allergens. They get all over everything and rub their tiny little devil faces on everyone. That sounds like a pretty nasty reaction. I hope people around you are making an effort to help keep you healthy!

I hate being out somewhere and not knowing the source of it. How do I avoid what I can't see? Or when someone brings it into my house. My house is my safe place where everything gets steamed and vacuumed and if I can't breathe here where am I supposed to go to breathe?
