Re: Gender & Slash

I'm a lesbian, and I almost exclusively read m/m.

For me, what's hot is same-sex sex. The idea of two same-sex bodies having sex is incredibly erotic to me, and just feels right and more natural. I believe completely that if I were a guy, I'd still be gay. Het turns me off, and while I might be aroused by what two dudes are doing together, I don't want to join them with my female body. I sort of live vicariously through them.

Usually if I'm reading porn, I'm not too concerned about queer representation lol. I don't really like preachy media, including "LGBT lit". I'd rather just read about interesting relationships that are gay. Not that some "slash" media couldn't use representation. I like yaoi, but in the case of Japanese media, I kind of resent when the characters are rarely described as gay (if the story takes place in a world where that would be a label), instead the characters are often straight and just-so-happen to be interested in a guy. Not that that premise turns me off, per se, but just considering Japan is lagging with gay rights and real representation outside of porn, I'm more invested in seeing gay characters describe themselves as gay, and even maybe get gay married and adopt a kid and shit.

But mostly, no.
