I think what bothers me is they don't think they need to explain it. Expressing it as a personal preference would defang me a little bit.

the reason it's a bad habit is because it ignores that other people are a lot more reluctant to express opinions than me. If I'm playing K Pop and someone is obviously uncomfortable but doesn't say anything, they might feel that's more polite than saying "Can we not listen to this? I find this genre of music really annoying". But because I resent people who don't just tell me what they think, I get belligerent. It's pretty illogical.
