I'm actually weirdly impressed that Moftiss managed to make their portrayal of Irene Adler so much more sexist than the original story written before women could even vote. I mean damn how do you even fuck up that badly without making a conscious effort?

By reacting like a 12 year old boy to a story about a man and a woman who is more cunning than him. "Ooh, he must have fancied her! Can't be that he has admiration or respect for a girrrrrlll for any other reason. Cooties."

Moffat's actual explanation was pretty much that. Read story at 12, concluded Holmes *must* have fancied her, book closed.

Sadly he's not alone, W.S.B Gould does the same, one of many reasons I won't touch the Annotated Holmes.
