Re: What's the most uncomfortable conversation you've had in the last week?

A few months ago I got what turned out to be a repetetive stress injury in my wrist. But as soon as my sister heard that it was my left arm that hurt, she thought "heart attack" and took me to urgent care.

One completely normal EKG and a couple hours later, I saw the doctor who was completely fixated on the fact that I came in for a possible heart attack, rather than the fact that my arm was still hurting. My sister (who is average weight and so has never had to deal with this b.s.) was shocked by this.

Finally, we got him on track; he prescribed a wrist brace and said to look at my ergonomics at work and oh yeah, lose the weight.

That's not even my favorite "accessing medical care while fat" story, though. That dubious honor goes to the nurse who said that my blood pressure could not possibly be "so low" (aka just under 120 over 80) and kept trying over and over again to get a "correct reading."
