Re: Stuff you want to see dystopia stories avoid
(Anonymous) 2017-02-18 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)and i understand you are trying to make a joke about capitalism but that's why i put the word unexplained in there. too many dystopia have that divide without a system to back it up or explain where everything is coming from. the real world doesnt need that as reality is there for us to observe.
Re: Stuff you want to see dystopia stories avoid
(Anonymous) 2017-02-18 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)wrt capitalism I guess my point is it should - in a lot of cases - be possible for us to do a lot of extrapolation about those systems and those explanations if the world is remotely sensible in its construction because we should be familiar with the way those systems operate. of course expecting the world to be remotely sensible is maybe unjustified. I definitely agree that worlds where it feels like the entire world is all surface annoy me.
Re: Stuff you want to see dystopia stories avoid
(Anonymous) 2017-02-18 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)and not every dystopia is capitalist? you can have monarchic dystopias, fantasy dystopias, magic elite race dystopias, sci fi dystopias, whatever, lots of those are never explained in terms of system and backstory.
idk, are you disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing? or assuming every dystopia is an earth-based, reality-based, capitalist-based one and arguing from that perspective for some reason?
