I appreciate that you're giving me a fair shake on this, so thanks. Can I clarify the trump point?

I was talking specifically about the "And they let you" part of that little exchange and how that could be interpreted to imply consent. It also could be interpreted as "And they let you, but I don't give a fuck about that" but that's not the only way to read it, and there's a lot of hostility to people giving Trump the benefit of the doubt, which I think is unfair.

I mean I'd love to not get into it, and probably this distinction about what I was talking about won't change a thing about how anyone thinks of me, which is fair, it was an unpopular opinion thread, I'm prepared to be unpopular on this, I just thought I should be clear.

Thanks for looking past that in this case, tho, You're good people.

NAYRT -- I think you have to really stretch to turn "and they let you" into consent in the context of Trump's remarks. It's not "And they let you, but I don't give a fuck about that." It's "and there's nothing they can do about it, because I'm Donald Fucking Trump."

If an extremely rich and powerful man, who is also a foot taller and 100 lbs heavier than you, grabs you by the dick and then proceeds to fuck you sideways, the fact that you "let him" touch you the way he wanted to doesn't actually make it consensual on your part.

TW Discussions of rape.

Of course it could be "and there's nothing they can do about it, because I'm Donald Fucking Trump." but it could also be "and they want me to do it, because I'm Donald Fucking Trump." I don't begrudge anyone taking either reading of that.

The big phrase that get's thrown around is "It's just locker room talk" and people get horrified by it because they assume that if men in the locker rooms are talking like this what they must be saying is "I can rape women, aren't I cool?" because that's what they are hearing from Trump, when I think the reason people keep saying it's locker room talk is to give it the context that locker room talk has for a lot of people which is less "I can rape women, aren't I cool?" and more "women want me to have sex with them, aren't I cool?"

I don't usually hold with the "It's just locker talk" because even then its super tone deaf, and of course it is worded to allow for the interpretation of "I can touch woman an no-one can stop me" but I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that this was not him bragging about his sexual assaults. I mean, my sphere of guy friends is limited, but we wouldn't brag about rape. Rape would be the exact opposite of what we would be hoping to achieve, like "I'm so undesirable to women, I need to do things against their will, aren't I cool?" We brag about beautiful women wanting us, or we do when we get the chance. Thing I'm getting at is I think the "And they let me" part is more important to this than people give credit for. Of course that's just one possible interpretation, and I'm not even 100% sure this is what he was trying to say, It could well be "I can rape women, aren't I cool. I just think it's a more valid viewpoint than people are allowing. I don't anticipate changing anyones mind on it or anything.

DA Okay I think I get your train of thought. The emphasis on "and they let me" is his surprise that these women actually seemed to want him to do it rather than him just bragging about his dominance over others. The man is clearly still a rapist though.

In the future you should consider sitting on potentially inflammatory responses for a bit, then reread them a couple hours later with a fresh perspective, because your opinion on that has sounded sketchy as fuck until that last paragraph.
