I feel you, OP. I'm not ambitious or particularly talented at anything. It's a shame that it's so hard to earn a living wage just doing a regular retail job or something like that.

Me too, OP. Even living in the same city as my parents is a pipe dream right now ;-;

Me too, OP. Me too :(

I'm sorry that's not currently a possibility, OP! It seems like a reasonable goal that SHOULD be realistic...

We need to make this a world where it is.

Hard same.

I grew up in a little town and never really felt part of it, but for some reason I still have this vague want to find that small town where I can live and work and belong. And yeah, be passionate about a job I love.

Leslie's actual job is open about a half hour from me and it pays really well and I'm super qualified for it but I'm terrified to go for it with trump fucking up government jobs.

I know it's cliché, but you miss 100% of the shots you don't take, nonny. If Trump fucks up government jobs, well, then the worst scenario is you don't have that cool job... and you don't have that cool job NOW.

Like he has any power over state/county/municipal jobs. He can fuck up federal jobs, sure, but can't stop local governments from hiring. You should go for it!

NAYRT, but it's less that he'll "stop local governments from hiring" and more that he'll give local governments the excuse they need to abolish those programs. Depending on what state you're in, the state government does the bare minimum that's required to meet federal regulations. Parks and Recs, for example, takes place in Indiana, a state that sold its public toll roads to an international conglomerate because they thought they'd get more money out of them that way (spoiler alert: they did not.). They're not going to keep putting money into state parks if there's no federal incentive to do so.

With that said, it's not like anyone who wants Leslie's job isn't in it for the money. AYRT should go for it. Worst case scenario is that they get to live the dream for a while before being furloughed, and they wind up with experience and hiring priority for other state government jobs.
