I agree, it can be done in an okay manner. Often, like your family, when it's more "yay it's a baby!" kind of thing.

Ngl though the pink/blue thing would still irk me. But I've been told I'm way overly sensitive to gender stereotypes and need to chill. :/

Eh. It's a minor irk.

I think I get it though. You suddenly have this baby but it doesn't have a discernible identity yet. It's just pooping and crying and scaring you. So you give it Certain Attributes to make everything less freaky and more orderly.

So suddenly it's a Little Girl and you dress it in cute things to make you happy because really the baby has absolutely no opinion as to what she's wearing and you aren't somehow hurting her by sticking her in a pink tutu. This only becomes damaging if you force it on her once she knows what she likes and doesn't like.

I know my sister's going to let my niece live in jeans the moment she realizes 1. what jeans are and 2. whether or not she likes them. I know she's not going to force her into pink. But intentionally rendering a little baby as gender neutral as possible as long as possible seems like another way to act like gender roles are something to worry about rather than letting go of them.

if I can state a random opinion

I just think babies look cute in green (maybe because it's a little different)

If I had a baby I would dress them as a frog all the time

Absolutely!

For some reason a major trend in baby clothing is grey now? All these little grey onesies.

This particular baby is constantly wearing hats with ears.

I got some brown teddy bear clothes for someone's daughter and I was the only one who didn't get something pink, idk about ONLY grey but I saw a grey like, winter cape thing? I thought was cute.

At the same time, I guess I'm unbothered by the idea that somebody will misgender a child of mine. Like, when my sister was clothes shopping for my neice, I picked out a pair of the CUTEST TINY CARGO PANTS for her, which happened to be from the boys side because I guess girls don't rate tiny adorable cargo pants??? idk.
Anyway my sister didn't want them because she didn't want people thinking her daughter was a boy and I was like T^T but but SO CUTE TINY CARGO PANTS?????

People are weird about babies and gender *shrug*

As a baby, I had no hair until I was almost 2, so my mom constantly put stupid hats or ribbons on me so I would be more girly. (More so that when she was out she wouldn't have to correct them when they'd say "oh he's so cute")

Must have backfired because I literally wore 3 dresses from the time I was 5 until I was 16.

People can be weird about it. My baby room? Painted blue. My sister and I both lived in that room, so there was never this super girly feel. My parents themed it around these Disney blue curtains they had and it had Mickey, Minnie, Pluto and Donald on it.
