Anxiety & TW

(Anonymous) 2017-02-22 01:27 am (UTC)(link)

Real talk: I had so many bad encounters with my dad and a few bad encounters with teachers that whenever an adult and I have a seemingly good relationship (professional or family friend), I always assume they are being nice to me to be close enough to hurt me or that my kindness towards them will be interpreted as “flirting” and then they’ll hurt me. I’m having an anxiety attack because I gave a teacher a thank you/Valentine card and I’m worried that that means something bad is going to happen to me now.

I just feel stupid and lame and
embarrassed.

This sounds like a job for a good therapist, nonny.

I know that feel, anon. A bad relationship with my mother means that I don't trust authority figures and am always awkward around them/ waiting for the metaphorical slap.

It sounds like I'm older than you, so I will say that handling it gets easier. Also, like other people have said, a therapist is a very good place to start to deal with this kind of stuff.
