If you're American, you can expedite the passport but do it NOW. It will cost more. If you live near a major city, you can get passports in as little as 24 hours (I know people who go into NYC to do as often) but it's way expensive and a hassle. Get it all taken care of now!

You may need your passport in order to book your flights, if not, they'll definitely ask for the passport number in advance.
