What interests (or genres, shows, etc)...

Do you have absolutely NO desire to waste time on?

Any thing where the genre is strictly romance = keep it.

I don't mind if it sneaks into a show i'm watching for other reasons but you will not find me willingly going to watch a romantic movie because I just don't care.

That and a few period pieces come to think of it.

Same. If there's a mystery/thriller/suspense/horror (my favorite genres) thing that also includes romance (preferably in the background), fine, but if it's JUST romance, nope.

Yep. I'm fine with romance as part of a larger story, but if the main focus of the plot is romance, then no thanks.

I have no interest in stuff like Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, or The Hunger Games. I'm just not a fan of those genres.

I read the first four books of GoT and they're cool but honestly it gets so crowded....you aren't missing anything. Well, you probably ARE but after a point it just wasn't worth.

That seems like... a lot of genres? So no fantasy, dystopia, sci-fi, magic, teen, romance, historical, or violence?

Or is it specific things about those three particular shows that you don't have an interest in?

Reality shows. All of them.

The Sopranos and True Detective. I've had my fill of crime dramas to last me a lifetime.

I'll also NEVER start watching Supernatural again.

Zombies. As a genre, I mean. I have a friend who really likes them and keeps trying to get me interested and it's just not going to happen. I don't need to watch/read things about people getting messily killed and then their messy corpses getting up and wandering messily around the place trying to messily kill everyone else. Just, no. Disease, desperation and despair is not a combination I feel particularly inclined to dwell on.

(Oddly, I'm okay with skeletons. Reanimated skeletons are fine. Even mummies are okay. Dry, that's the thing. Dry bodies are fine. It's the disease overtones and the gore that get me with zombies, that and the whole 'everyone is infected and out to get you' thing. Actually, I don't tend to watch too many medical dramas either).

Aside from Star Trek: TOS & Star Wars: TOS, I don't like sci-fi.

I watch won't horror either.

Don't really do the shooter of the month thing.
It's easier to list what I'm into than what I'm not into.

Many things tbh, I don't watch a lot of TV these days.

But for a specific genre that I rarely find interesting: cop shows. I find them all boring and samey and it's pretty hard for me to drum up any interest in them.

Even though teenage me would be very confused that I turned into a crazy-knowledgeable baseball fan, I still can't see myself ever getting into American football. The way it's broadcast, I never know how to focus on the action. I didn't understand the structure of the game for a long time, but even now that I do, I have no interest in it. It just seems so brutal and the injuries freak me out. :(

I can't deal with football because the flow of it just seems frustrating to me. They all line up and then run around for five seconds, and then it all stops so they can line up again.

The way they go to commercials every time there's a pause in the action is a major turnoff too.

College football is a little easier to digest, mostly because there's so many games on at the same time that I end up watching 3 games at a time. I also spent a lot of time watching high school football.

But I'm not big in to the NFL or the whole fantasy football thing.

Period pieces. Unless there's some sort of fantasy/magic element to it, but if it's supposed to be historically accurate, no.

- Reality shows
- Sports
- Downtown Abbey/most "historical" period shows.

- Probably Game of Thrones. I've watched S1 and half of S2, got distracted by other things, and didn't go any further. That was back before S3 started (and I think they're up to 6 or 7 now?) so it's been several years. At this point I feel like I'd have to go back and start over because I can barely remember any of it, and I'm contemplating it, because most of my friends just LOVE the show and I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing, but I'm not sure I'm going to bother. It just didn't really grab my interest for the most part.

- The Walking Dead. Watched the first season, found it pretty boring, and although I've heard it gets way better after that, plus some of the characters/ships sound interesting to me, I'm just not sure.

- Once Upon A Time. Gave up after I don't even know how long (maybe S2?) and although I've heard from a couple people that it's really good these days, I've also heard from other people that it's awful now so...probably not going to bother.

- And recently I quit watching The Great Indoors because all the "aren't millenials dumb/crazy/ridiculous?" jokes got really old. I'm a millenial and I can only think of a couple people I know who act anything at all like those characters, and they're self-absorbed and obnoxious as fuck and pretty much everyone that knows them avoids them.

I'd have to go with Zombies-- I find them gross and disgusting to the point that they squick me. There's something that just gives me the shivers about bodies with pieces of flesh that is just falling off the bone in the grossest way imaginable.

Ick...

Once Upon A Time

[personal profile] were_lemur 2017-02-23 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
So what if the first season is actually pretty good? Why am I going to want to get invested in something that I KNOW has since turned into a blazing dumpster fire?

Re: What interests (or genres, shows, etc)...

(Anonymous) 2017-02-23 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
For genres it really depends. I mean there's a lot of genres I usually don't like, but if someone who really knows my tastes recs me something I'll check it out. I don't like most zombie movies, but Fido was fantastic, I hate sitcoms, I enjoyed 3rd Rock From the Sun.

Though when checking something out that I'm iffy on I try to follow a Rule of 4. I will watch the first three episodes and then if I'm not hooked if applicable I'll skip to a fan favorite. That's how I was with the 11th Doctor, I watched the first three then skipped to Vincent and the Doctor. I didn't enjoy any of them, so I stopped.

The exception is if I know I'm really going to dislike something in the show or if I encounter it during my trial watch. Rule of 4 is for just meh shows.

Zombies, cannibalism, lives of teenagers.
