I've often wondered about this: has ff.net always been bad and was I just not 'mature' enough to notice or was it (once, a long long time ago) good?

AYRT - I've re-read some of the fics I thought were masterpieces back then, and they definitely weren't as great as I remembered. So there is definitely the being young factor, since we probably liked things we wouldn't like now that we know it's just not good writing. But they weren't awful.
