Can we be clear this is not genderlocked behavior? I've seen it both ways and it's sad and irritating. You're not gonna died because you watched a TV show that one time.

It's not locked, but it is really common to see 'girl interests' assumed to be lesser. (I mean, look at the comments here. People going 'it's not like it's Toddlers and Tiaras or Sex and the City!' instead of 'it's not like it's Texas Chain Saw Massacre or wrestling!' Even though they're just as far off from Star Trek )

In a group I was in a 'geek mom' was bragging that her daughter prefers to dress as Batman to something from Frozen. I asked if her son ever wanted to be Supergirl and she lost her shit over NO OF COURSE NOT. It's weirdly common.
