I get what you're getting at, but same-sex love in Clamp exists within a really weird context already. Their ideas about pure and special love are by no means limited to their same-sex romances - just look at Terada-sensei and the whole thewhatnow that is Chobits.

Yeah, happens with Yuuko and Clow too, I AGREE but the thing is like:

MYSTICAL SOUL ROMANCEY
- Het couples
- Homo couples
- Suspiciously agender but most likely just homobait couples

ACTUAL EXPLICIT ROMANCE, CONFIRMED MUTUAL LOVE
- Het couples

This is kinda how it feels sometimes, you know? But going into that would've taken way longer.

Both those are deviant from "normal" heterosexuality, though (one is literally pedophilia, the other is human/robot) so it's kind of like this "pure and special love" takes relationships that would otherwise be weird or bad and makes it so they're okay. But normal gay relationships shouldn't need that to justify them.

YES THIS

OP here and I recced Kinou Nani Tabeta? up thread somewhere as an example of a series that actually ENGAGES with being gay and this reminds me of a moment in there where the MC's mom was like !! SON I SUPPORT YOU;;; YOU KNOW I DO RIGHT?? WHETHER YOU ARE GAY OR A CRIMINAL YOU ARE STILL MY SON

and the MC was just sort of internally like 'okay well thanks mom... I guess, good to know being gay is BASICALLY AS BAD AS THAT in your eyes...'
