55 (NO ONE WILL SEE THIS BECAUSE IT IS SO LATE)

I love me some Scott Westerfeld, and I do wish he had a bigger fandom, but man, I thought So Yesterday and the Midnighters books were way better than Uglies/Pretties/Specials/Extras. :( I hear you on wanting fic, though.

I totally want Midnighters-fic. CLEARLY THERE SHOULD BE A WESTER-FIC COMM OR SUMMAT. :D

Those books didn't look/sound that interesting to me upon a glance ( I didn't read the back in case I read it later. The backs often have whole book spoilers xD ) Are they future civilization books at all? I seem to have a huge infatuation with future-society stories.

His writing is really good regardless c:
That and the need for fic is desperate for any of his works.

Normally I'm big into the whole dystopian future thing, too, but no - Midnighters is set in sort of an alternate present-day Oklahoma.

The biggest problem that I have with the Uglies series is that I can't stand the main character - I just don't like Tally enough to read a book about her. Unfortunately, I feel the same way about Jessica (who is the main protagonist in the Midnighters books), but I like her supporting cast more than I liked the supporting cast of Uglies.

Honestly, though, the books fit together as a trilogy really well; they build on one another nicely, and in the first book the things that are just-plain-weird about the universe seem to be more location-specific. And it involves a lot of wordplay that I enjoy. It's kind of an epic battle between good and evil - cliched but well-done anyway.

:3 It's a good series, regardless.

As for So Yesterday that one is in kind of a future society, but it's a very close future, and it's a fantastic one-shot. The idea that drives the plot is grounded in some stuff that, you know, actually happens, which is pretty rockin'. I don't know that I can reveal much more about So Yesterday without giving you a back-cover blurb type sum-up; it's about a group of kids paid to tell everybody else what's cool. On the one hand, that could be totally lame, but Westerfeld pulls it off nicely. It's more about social constructs and corporate espionage than fashion. Which, well, I like.

Ooooh, well that sounds nice :D

Even if the characters aren't that great I like getting angry at them sometimes xD I am not a big fan of Tally either ( I ended up hating Shay a lot more throughout the series in general, but it was a roller coaster of emotion with her. Loved her-Hated her-loved-hated-loved. Hardly ever between ). I guess I liked the extras book, but it confused me to start. Because it starts in an Asian culture, instead of some strange form of America. But I digress.

I'll try reading them if I get a chance to go out and buy them xD Thanks for the intro to the books! :D

I'm not a very big fan of tally either, which is why I love extras (Aya is the shit) and pretties (pretty tally is hilarious and I adore Zane and Shay in that book)

FUCKING CONFIRM on the Midnighter's love thar. I thought that series was kickass. Dess is my idol, man. I WANT HER BRAIN. Rex/Jessica is my OTP. I'm not sure why, but whatever. 8D

I'm only halfway through Pretties atm, but I'm enjoying it so far. Apparently the ending of the series isn't so crash hot?

(I'm very, very tempted to make a Scott Westerfeld comm...)

I confess that the only book in Uglies/Pretties/Specials/Extras I read was the first - I just didn't like it enough to read the rest.

LOL, Rex/Jessica is weird but, you know, I can see how that would work. Dess is by far my favorite character (but my ships are Dess/Jonathan and Jonathan/Rex, with a healthy side-portion of The Bitch Queen/Everyone's Brain), too - her little Dess Blog on SW's Midnighter's official page is hilarious.

WESTERFELD COMM! It should happen, clearly. 8D

*raises hand*

I totally second the Westerfeld comm movement. :D

I did a search on interests. There are a couple that exist, but most of them seem fairly dead. A new one might be a good idea, given how much interest has been shown in this post.

There are a few Westerfeld comms, but they're all mostly dead. If a new one was made I think based on the interest in this post, it would be fairly active. At least for a little while.
