I like the skating, but that's not the wanky part so it doesn't get talked about.

I don't know about elsewhere, but here on FS there was... someone who said that YOI wasn't a "real" sport anime because they didn't skate enough. People disagreed in the comments, but having now seen the show, I now think that person never watched past episode 4 or something.

People only say it's not a real sports anime because it has fanservice and an actual homosexual relationship lmao

Same goes to people who say Free! is not a sports anime because of the ~drama~ despite the fact they train, swim, compete, and think about their future in swimming in pretty much every episode.

You don't have to like 'em, but they are definitely sports anime.

I don't consider Free sports anime in the same way I don't think Ping Pong was a sports anime.

I've seen lots of people talking about the skating, but that was mostly focusing on the animation of the skating sections.
